ETHICS

Personal Statement

My Personal Vision Statement is as follows: “I want to be a respected and reliable leader that can be counted on to accomplish any task set before me with innovative efficiency and with consideration of those that work for and with me.  I challenge myself to live in moderation in all facets of life, being sincere yet decisive and putting in the work and research required to succeed.  I want to work with a team of professionals in the government towards goals that enrich the community and bring out the best in those with whom I work.”  This PVS is something that I feel strongly about, and represents the values and morals I stand for.  In high school, our football coach gave us a mantra to live by as students, players, and members of the community.  This mantra was “Don’t Bring It Weak.”  The meaning behind this is that attempting to do anything partly is the same as not doing it, and that in order to see real results the individual must not only be determined, but dedicated to the task at hand. This has continued to be a motto for my actions and decisions.  In pursuing my ideal self and fulfilling my Personal Vision Statement, I am not going to simply go through the motions, but will become dedicated to improved change.

Values and principles are the building blocks of success.  They depict what we hold dear and determine how we will react to external stimuli.  Stephen Covey states that “Principles are deep, fundamental truths, classic truths, generic common denominators. They are tightly interwoven threads running with exactness, consistency, beauty, and strength through the fabric of life.”  Core values that I cherish are respect, integrity, responsibility and a good work ethic.  I have seen these characteristics in every hard-working leader I have looked up to, and believe that others see these values in my own leadership and communication styles.  I believe the most effective way to establish and build positive relationships is to be respectful of other people, regardless of position or their opinion of you. Respect is a reflection of integrity, and reliability is an implication of the acceptance of responsibility.  It is vitally important to show this respect, bringing honesty and hard-work to all that you do will establish a good reputation for integrity and encourage people to want to work with you.  The more people that want to collaborate with you the better chance you have of making a difference or completing a task more thoroughly.
